Abstract: The genre in this case would partially be considered an autobiography since the author writes about her personal goals and the driving force behind them. The purpose of this writing piece was to give the professor an inside look at what the student is hoping to accomplish throughout the semester and beyond.

Dear Professor von Uhl:

I am writing this letter in hopes that you will better understand me as a student and my future goals and aspirations. I graduated from a high school named Academy of Finance and Enterprise, and if the name was not a giveaway, it mainly focused on business. I did not attend this school with hopes of continuing a career in this profession; growing up, I saw myself becoming a doctor. However, during my senior year of high school, I felt an overwhelming urge to choose Mechanical Engineering as my major. This was mainly because throughout the years I noticed my skills with sciences such as biology and chemistry were not as strong as that of math.

My short-term goals include going to Germany during my junior year through the study abroad program. Additionally, one of my long-term goals has always been to continue my career as a Mechanical Engineer in Europe since it always felt like Europe is my way to stay close to my culture but at the same time explore a world outside of America. To reach my goal, I must get accepted into the Grove School of Engineering after passing the required prerequisite classes. While making my acceptance another short-term goal of mine. As far as my long-term goals, I have envisioned myself making prosthetics. I conducted a lot of research when choosing my major and I know that to go into prosthetics the typical major is Biomedical Engineering although, I saw M.E as something that would give me more leverage in case my career choice changes. My goal has been to help others in some way, which is why bionic limbs and other biomedical technologies struck my interest.

Since technology is a never-ending phenomenon that will provide our generation (and many more to come) with a sense of security and hope. My main dream is for the things I create to make the lives of people all over the world simpler. I aspire that my work would be a great help not only to patients but also to those involved in their lives. Aside from my wishes for the future, I hope to provide for others I also hope to provide a secure life for myself. I am the daughter of two immigrants from Albania who sacrificed their comfortable lives back home to give my brother and me the chance to create comfortable lives on our own. My dream isn’t to be rich and own dozens of sports cars; my dream is simply to give back to my parents and see the world. As I previously stated, technology is a never-ending phenomenon, but so is nature and the creations that await us far beyond our fingertips.

Last but not least, during this semester in English 20170, I plan to improve my skills in writing and my patience when it comes to reading and analyzing research. I have always struggled with staying focused and understanding technical writing, so I aim to do my part in enhancing this skill.

Sincerely,

Heidi Haxhiu
